Gan Ying (Kan Ying) (97 CE)

In the context of Faxian's Travels:

Gan Ying 甘英, of the Eastern Han, was sent to the Western Regions at the time of Emperor He 和 by the Protector [duhu 都護] Ban Chao 班超 as an envoy to the Roman Empire (Da Qin 大秦). He reached Tiaozhi 條支, went near the "Western Sea" (Persian Gulf) and then returned. See the "Western Regions" chapter of the Hou Han shu.
