Champa (Chan City, Chan-ch’eng, Zhancheng)

Also called Zhan (Chan) city, or Zhancheng (Chan-ch'eng), Champa was a powerful kingdom, important both politically and economically, in Central Vietnam during the fifteenth century. The name ‘Chan city’, or capital of the Chan tribe, came to be used as the name for the country in general. Its principal port was Qui Nhon.
