Palembang (Old Haven, Jiujiang, Chiu-chiang)

The Chinese sources for the Ming voyages identify Palembang with the old Srivijaya (Sri Vijaya, Sanfoqi, San-fo-ch'i). At this time it denoted "a state which included Palembang, Djambi (Melayu), and an undetermined area of surrounding territory. . . . Palembang had some economic importance in maritime commerce, though Djambi had replaced it as the capital of the state".
